Left Behind follows the stories of a group of determined moms, who advocate and establish the Literacy Academy Collective—the first public school network in New York City for students with dyslexia.

The Literacy Academy Collective opened its first school, the South Bronx Literacy Academy in 2023 and its second school, the Central Brooklyn Literacy Academy in 2025.
